Recipe Recap–PB Chocolate Chip Protein Balls

Good morning and happy Saturday!  I thought I would jump on quickly and share the awesome protein ball recipe I found this week!

I’ve been thinking about making protein balls for a while now but I couldn’t find a recipe that I felt like was actually lived up to the name “protein”.  Seriously, people thrown together peanut butter and oats and call it protein balls.  Sorry to burst their bubbles but that’s just a yummy sweet treat that you’re trying to make yourself feel better about.

I was so pleased when I ran across this recipe from the healthy Maven blog.  It actually has protein powder in the protein balls!  Still though, I was nervous.  Protein powder is hit or miss for me.  It just pretty much always tastes…ummmm…trying to find my words here….I guess I would say it tastes artificial.  So I decided I would make these and give them to a few taste testers to see if they were actually decent!  Enter my Wednesday night spin class, great guinea pigs!  Work their tails off for 50 minutes then reward them with a treat.  It was a fabulous plan!  I totally should have taken their picture…fail.  But they loved them and approved demanded I share them on here!

I made them just as directed in the link above and used chocolate chips as the add in. Definitely take her advice and use your hands to mix once you start adding in the water.  I ALMOST added too much!  I also stuck mine into the freezer to let them set up for about 10 minutes of a cookie sheet before I put them into a tupperware in the fridge.  I love her different ideas for add ins and definitely want to play around with those!

I know a few of you are going to ask what type of protein powder I used so I figured I would go ahead and share that with you guys.  I ran in whole foods a couple weeks ago on a mission to find a new protein powder to try out.  Does anyone else feel like that’s the hardest decision EVER?!  Like, how in the world am I supposed to pick.  And how rude to not be able to take a sample of each of them.  If I’m going to spend between $35-$50 on ONE item that could easily be TERRIBLE I’m going to need you to let me sample.  But whatever.

I ended up with PaleoPro Protein Powder and I’m really liking it!  I’ve actually been doing protein smoothies a few mornings a week and I also used it in this recipe.  My husband also really likes it as well.  I got the vanilla flavor to start but I’m thinking next time I might try out the chocolate.

Hope you guys enjoy these!  Let me know if you make them and if you love them as much as we do!  Oh, last but not least, they are also toddler approved!
